Boston’da şeker tadında bir yaz.. Massachusetts eyaletinin başkenti 1630 yılında kurulan Boston, ABD’nin en eski, tarihi ve kültürel açıdan en önemli şehirlerinden biridir. ABD'nin kuzeydoğusu “Yeni İngiltere (New England)” olarak bilinir. Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut ve Rhode Island eyaletlerini kapsar. Bu bölge koloni dönemlerine kadar uzanan tarihi, Atlantik kıyısı, parlak sonbahar yaprakları ve ormanlarla kaplı dağlarıyla tanınır.  Boston şehri 1773 yılında Britanya parlementosunun çay vergisini protesto etme amaçlı limanda demirlemiş gemilerdeki çay kutularını denize atmakla bilinir. ABD tarihinde “Boston çay partisi” olarak geçen bu olay  4 Temmuz 1776 yılında Britanya’nın 13 kolonisi krallıktan ayrılarak, egemen eyaletler federasyonun kuruluşunun da başlangıcıdır. Çay kutuların döküldüğü rıhtım bu gün müze haline getirilmiş. Müzede zamanında yaşanan “çay partisi” olayı günümüzün modern sinevizyon teknolojisiyle ziyaretçilere çok güzel anlatılmaktadır.  “Yeni İngiltere” seyahatini sonbahar başlangıcında denk getirdim. Bölgenin doğa manzarasını hayranlıkla seyretmek için Boston'u başlangıç ​​noktası olarak  kullandım.  “Pastırma Yazı (Indian Summer)” olarak isimlendirilen Eylül başı ile Kasım ortası “Yeni İngiltere’ye” tüm ihtişamıyla geliyor. Yaprak döken ağaçların yaprakları daha sonra yavaş yavaş renk değiştirerek manzarayı sarı, kırmızı ve turuncunun eşsiz tonlarına büründürüyor. Kiralık bir araba alarak, Massachusetts, Rhode Island ve Maine eyaletlerinin  renk gösterisinin tadını çıkarmaya çalıştım.  Her büyük şehirde olduğu gibi Boston'da da konaklamanız sırasında kaçırmamanız gereken önemli yerler var. Özgürlük Yolu  (Freedom Trail) bunlardan biri. Özgürlük Yolu, sizi 17 tarihi mekanın ötesine götüren ve Büyük Britanya'dan bağımsızlık mücadelesine odaklanan dört kilometre uzunluğunda bir rotadır. Bu rota özellikle Boston’un tarihi önemli noktaları kaçırmamak istemeyenler  için tavsiye ederim.  Boston  demek üniversite şehri demektir. Meşhur Harvard Üniversitesiyle Boston ve çevresi 100'den fazla üniversitesiyle  gerçek bir öğrenci şehrine ev sahipliği yapıyor. Kendiniz öğrenci olmasanız bile, buradaki harika rahat atmosferi içinize çekebilir ve kendinizi öğrenci gibi hissedebilirsiniz. Üniversite müzelerinden birini ziyaret edin veya öğrenciler arasında popüler olan kafelerden birinde keyifli saatler geçirin. Akşam saatlerinde İrlanda pub’larının birinde veya benim favorim Harvard Square’de Grendel’s Den barında soğuk bir bira içerek kadeh kaldırırsanız, sonunda öğrenci hayatına varmışsınız demektir.  Elbette dünyanın en ünlü üniversitelerinden biri olan Harvard Üniversitesi'nden bahsediyorum. Üniversitenin muhteşem itibarı ülke sınırlarının çok ötesine uzanıyor. Bu yüzden Cambridge'deki kampüs alanı daha yakından ziyaret edilmedi. Kırmızı tuğlalı evler, tarihi öğrenci yurtlarında çok sayıda genç arasında kendinizi aşağı yukarı öğrenci gibi hissediyorsunuz. Ayrıca Harvard’ın komşusu Charles nehri üzerinde tüm zamanların en önemli teknik üniversitelerinden MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) bulunmaktadır.  Amerika denildiğinde akla ilk gelen yiyecekler muhtemelen Amerikan kahvaltısı, hamburger ve benzeri yiyeceklerdir. Ancak Boston'da hatta “Yeni İngiltere ” bölgesinde  lezzetli taze ıstakozun tadına bakma fırsatını kaçırmamak gerekir.  Istakoz bu bölgede çok popülerdir ve aynı zamanda sandviç şeklinde atıştırmalık olarak sunuluyor. Boston’un İtalyan semtinde İtalyan mutfağını unutmamak gerekir. Seyahatimde şunları notlarıma aldım:   Oto yollara “yola çöp atmayın cezası 10.000 dolar” tabelaları.  Metroda “bu metro sizin vergilerinizle temizleniyor. Lütfen metroyu temiz tutun” afişleri.  Uzun yıllar Ralf Lauren giyim firmasında tekstil ve moda tasarımcı olarak çalışmış, Mersin’den arkadaşım Sıtkı Gülergün’ün Boston’un marka caddesi Newbury’daki sanat galerisini ziyaret ettim. Sıtkı, Londra Craydon ve St.Martin’s güzel sanatlar akademisinden mezun ve ABD’de başarılı bir moda tasarımcısı.  Maine eyaleti ormanlarla kaplı yeşile bürünmüş bir eyalet. İnsanlar bir  birine çok saygılı. Gezdiğim kıyı şehirleri inanılmaz derece temiz ve yaz ayları turizm sezonunda tamamen dolu. Freeport şehrinde Türk halılarını pazarlayan Ami-Murat Ünal çiftinin standını görünce gurur duymam. Rhode Island eyaleti  içinde yer alan Marta’s Vineyard görülmesi gereken önemli bir ada. Mimarisi, temizliği, kalitesi, lokantaları ve korumacılık kültürüyle bir numara diyebilirim. İster istemez İstanbul Büyükada ile kıyasladım ve aradaki olumsuz farkı görünce hüzünlendim.    Boston Çay Partisi Müzesi Porland Şehrinde İstakoz Martha’s Vineyard adası​ Harvard Tarihi Öğrenci Yurtlarından Birisi. The northeast of the US is known as "New England". It includes the states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. This region is known for its history dating back to colonial times, its Atlantic coast, its bright autumn foliage and forested mountains. The city of Boston is known for throwing tea boxes from ships anchored in the harbor into the sea in the year 1773 to protest against the British parliament's tea tax. This event, known as the "Boston Tea Party" in US history, was the beginning of the establishment of a federation of sovereign states on July 4, 1776, when Britain's 13 colonies seceded from the kingdom. The dock where the tea boxes were poured has been turned into a museum today. In the museum, the "tea party" event of the time is explained to the visitors very well with today's modern cinevision technology.  I timed my trip to "New England" to coincide with the beginning of autumn. I used Boston as a starting point to admire the natural landscape of the region. Early September to mid-November, which is called "Indian Summer", comes to "New England" in all its glory. The leaves of the deciduous trees then gradually change color, turning the landscape into unique shades of yellow, red and orange. I took a rental car and tried to enjoy the color show of the states of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine. As in every big city, there are some important places in Boston that you should not miss during your stay. The Freedom Trail is one of them. The Freedom Trail is a four kilometer long route that takes you beyond 17 historic sites and focuses on the struggle for independence from Great Britain. I recommend this route especially for those who don't want to miss Boston's historical highlights. Boston is a college town. With the famous Harvard University and more than 100 universities around Boston, it's a true student city. Even if you're not a student yourself, you can soak up the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere here and feel like one. Visit one of the university museums or spend a pleasant hour in one of the cafes popular with students. In the evening, toast with a cold beer in one of the Irish pubs or, my favorite, Grendel's Den in Harvard Square, and you've finally arrived at student life. I'm talking, of course, about Harvard University, one of the most famous universities in the world. Its excellent reputation extends far beyond the borders of the country. That's why the campus site in Cambridge has not gone unvisited. Red-brick houses, historic student dormitories and lots of young people make you feel more or less like a student. Harvard's neighbor on the Charles River is MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), one of the most important technical universities of all time. When you think of America, the first foods that come to mind are probably American breakfasts, hamburgers and the like. But in Boston, or even in the "New England" region, you should not miss the opportunity to taste delicious fresh lobster. Lobster is very popular in this region and is also served as a snack in the form of sandwiches. Italian cuisine is not to be forgotten in Boston's Italian neighborhood. I took the following notes on my trip: "Don't litter on the road, $10,000 fine" signs on the highways.  "This subway is cleaned with your tax money. Please keep the subway clean" posters.    I visited the art gallery of a friend of mine from Mersin, Sıtkı Gülergün, who used to work as a textile and fashion designer at Ralf Lauren clothing company for many years, in Boston's signature street, Newbury. Sıtkı has graduated from London Craydon and St. Martin's fine arts school and is a successful fashion designer in the USA. The state of Maine is a green state covered with forests. People are very respectful to each other. The coastal cities which I visited, are incredibly clean and full of people during the summer tourism season. When I saw the stand of Ami-Murat Ünal couple to present Turkish carpets in Freeport, I couldn't help but feel proud. Located in the state of Rhode Island, Marta's Vineyard is an important island to visit. I can say that it is number one with its architecture, cleanliness, quality, restaurants and protection culture. I couldn't help but compare it to Büyükada in Istanbul and was saddened to see the negative difference.
